Also etwas, das eher wenig Aufmerksamkeit benötigt.
While still being in the process of constructing the Queen Louise riding habit spencer, I was looking for a minor project to keep me entertained and help me relax in the evening on the sofa. Something, that wouldn't call for much attention.
And it didn't take long for me to find it.
Yes, it was kind of "love at first sight" indeed.
An amazingly enchanting little reticule, which was listed with the euphonic name antique early 1800s woolwork embroidery beadwork purse, reticule (unfortunately meanwhile some pictures have been removed due to the fact that the item is sold) .
And cross stitch was totally do-able even for me being not a very skilled embroideress.
First I was to transform the tiny stitches into an eye-friendly pattern,
because the lovely little purse measures only 6" square.

Being a novice in embroidery I had no idea how much skeins I would need, but I was very certain that I wanted to do this project with embroidery wool.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to shop local, which led me to an online offer, where tapestry wool remnants were available in beautiful old fashioned colours. Each colour was offerd in 5 skeins per 16 ft and for a true bargain.
I'm sorry that the photo is a bit dark, but this way they mirror the true colours.

After I've got the knack of it, I confidently stitch along...and yes, it's truly enjoyable. (Although my eyes sometimes say otherwise)

The back with the coralred diamonds and the petite blue flowers (forget-me-not?) is already completely finished.

And the pattern on the front is also coming along nicely.

I've chosen a tapestry canvas with 6 holes per centimeter, to match the exact size of the original.
Furthermore the tapestry canvas has the same stiffness as the original purse's fabric.

Welche Erleichterung!
For those, who thoroughly studied the pictures of the original purse, will notice with some slight satisfaction, that no effort was put on having a tidy left embroidery side of the fabric. Big relief!

While I still enjoy this little project, I have already started with a new garment respectively ensemble.
Right now I'm starting with the skirt and until my next blog post I may reveal: it will be mellow yellow, lots of decorating and lavish...truly 1818!
